The Star Buccaneers campaign follows the adventures of the crew of an Outer-Rim-based merchant/smuggling freighter as they search across multiple planets for the hidden pirate treasure of Mad Captain Aster.
The Star Buccaneers campaign is set in the Legends Canon of Star Wars continuity. The campaign is set near the year 10 BBY, in the 'dark times' spanning the period between the Clone Wars and the Galactic Civil War. The campaign begins on Socorro and progresses through various Outer Rim planets. Locations used in the campaign will likely be a mix of canon and DM-original planets.
The plot centers on the story of Mad Captain Aster, a successful Outer-Rim pirate who operated during the time of the Galactic Republic and who was known to make exploratory excursions deep into wild space. Aster disappeared a decade or so before the Clone Wars, and was generally presumed dead. After his disappearance, many speculated on the possibility of Aster having hidden large amounts of his horded treasure in the backwaters of the Outer Rim, but nothing was ever found. Additionally, a rumor circulated that Aster had discovered a form of immortality while exploring the unknown regions, and had retired from piracy to a life of solitude.
By the time of the Star Buccaneers campaign, travelers in the Outer Rim would perhaps have heard of Mad Captain Aster, but attempts to find him or his treasure would by that point have been long abandoned.
The player characters in Star Buccaneers all take on the role of crew members of a freighter engaged in merchant and smuggling operations in the Outer Rim. While the campaign takes place during the time of the Galactic Empire, the party operates far enough from the Core that they are used to relative lawlessness and have likely seen a fair amount of combat.
The campaign begins with the party having completed a shipment to the desert world of Socorro, and lingering at a tavern before moving on to the next system.
